Did you know that February is National Pet Dental Month? The majority of people consider brushing their teeth part of a healthy daily routine. But most don’t give nearly the same attention when it comes to the dental health of their pets.
To educate owners of pet dental hygiene, February has been chosen as National Pet Dental Month by American Veterinary Medical Society. Dental care is often ignored by owners due to the cost of periodontal therapy. Food and plaque can build up on your pet’s teeth, much like your own. If it lingers there, it can cause bad breath, gingivitis, receding gums, loss of teeth, damage to the tongue and palate, and oral infections. Some of these problems can make it hard for your pet to chew and eat, and they can cause more complications down the road.
It is a fact that 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats show signs of oral disease by age 3. Periodontal disease is a common problem in dogs. Cats can develop painful resorptive lesions. To help avoid these issues, bring your pet to the veterinarian at least once a year for a dental exam. The veterinarian will examine your pet’s mouth, and perform a professional cleaning. Then follow it by maintaining your pet’s dental health by giving them dental treats, chews, and brushing their teeth. Yes, you heard us right, brushing your pet’s teeth.

Does your pet have the best smile? Show us your healthy pet’s smile. In honor of National Pet Dental Month, we ask our fans to send us their best photos of their smiling pets. Your pet could be the next EntirelyPets star.
Prize:
The winner will be featured on our site, newsletter, Facebook, and receive dental gift basket. All that you need to keep your pet’s dental health fresh and clean.
How to Enter:
1. Take a picture of your pet smiling or their version of a smile. Show us that healthy smile!
2. Enter your photo into our contest by emailing us the photo at facebook@entirelypets.com. You can submit one photo per pet before Saturday, February 11, 2012. Please send us the photo of your pet only.
3. Vote for your favorite entries, and the photo with the most votes WINS! You get to decide who the winner will be. Don't forget to vote on our Facebook. Tell your family and friends to vote for your pet on Facebook.
*All photos submitted to us must be an original photo of your pet smiling or their version of a smile. Please don't submit any Photoshopped pictures of your pet. Any Photoshopped work will not be accepted.
*Contest ends on Wednesday February 29th 2012 at 11:59 EST and a winner will be announced Friday March 2nd 2012 |
