Are They Safe for My Pet?
If used correctly, slicker brushes are very safe to use on your pet. However, you do need to pay attention to a few things when brushing your dog.
The first potential issue when using a slicker brush is accidentally scratching and harming the skin. This happens when too much pressure is used. To avoid this, only apply enough pressure so the brush lightly grazes over their skin, and make sure you are brushing the correct direction.
Also, it is not recommended to use a slicker brush if your dog has a skin condition (like mange), open wounds, or flea bites. This can further irritate the issue and potentially make them vulnerable to infection.
Lastly, you need to buy a brush that is the right size for your pet’s hair. Long bristles can irritate the skin of a dog with short hair, and vice versa.
