Optimmune Ophthalmic Ointment
Optimmune Ophthalmic Ointment is an ointment containing cyclosporine that is used to treat keratoconjunctivitis Sica (KCS) in dogs. KCS, or dry eye, is common in dogs and may be caused by any of several conditions that inhibit tear production. Though certain breeds are predisposed to developing KCS, any dog can become afflicted with this condition. Cyclosporine is an immunosuppressive agent that is effective in treating KCS in approximately 85% of patients.
Optimmune Ophthalmic Ointment is sterile and reduces the chance of secondary infections. In addition to treating dogs with KCS, this ointment can also be useful in treating dogs with chronic superficial keratitis (CSK) when applied to the eyes. Cyclosporine is also useful in treating a wide variety of other conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and atopic dermatitis.

Dosing
- Dosing for ointment is ¼ inch strip applied to eyelids every 12 hours
- Dogs with CSK or KCS will likely require lifelong therapy
- Follow the instructions given by your veterinarian

Administration
- Wash hands prior to administering the eye ointment
- Apply a ¼ inch strip of the ointment into the lower eyelid
- Do not touch tube opening, keep tube properly capped when not in use
- Use exactly as directed by your veterinarian

Side Effects
- Some burning, redness, tearing, discharge, pain, itching, stinging, or blurring of vision may occur
- Serious side effects are unexpected and most side effects will be manifestations of KCS and CSK not effectively treated by the ointment
