Useful Information
Proper dosage and administration of First Defense Tri-Shield are essential to ensure effective protection for newborn calves against scours. Follow these guidelines for optimal results:
Dosage:
- Administer one tube of First Defense Tri-Shield oral gel per newborn calf. Ensure each calf receives the full recommended dosage.
- Use the included dosing applicator or an appropriate oral syringe to measure and administer the gel.
Administration:
- Administer First Defense Tri-Shield as soon as possible after birth, ideally within the first 12 hours of life.
- Ensure the calf's mouth is clean and dry before application.
- Attach the dosing applicator or syringe to the tube of Tri-Shield gel.
- Gently introduce the applicator or syringe into the calf's mouth, aiming towards the back of the tongue.
- Slowly dispense the entire contents of the tube into the calf's mouth while keeping the calf's head in a slightly elevated position.
- Allow the calf to swallow the gel naturally. Ensure the calf does not spit out or regurgitate the gel.
- Monitor the calf for any adverse reactions or difficulty swallowing.
Safety Precautions:
- Wear disposable gloves when administering First Defense Tri-Shield to prevent cross-contamination.
- Store the product as per the manufacturer's instructions, typically in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and out of reach of children and animals.
- Dispose of empty tubes and any unused product in accordance with local regulations.
Consultation:
- For precise dosage and administration instructions tailored to your specific calf management practices, consult with a livestock veterinarian or farm advisor.
- If you observe any adverse reactions or have concerns during or after treatment, contact a veterinarian for guidance and support.
