Bandit came into our lives at 9 weeks old from a dumpster. She immediately moved into a space in our hearts that we hadn’t even realized was empty. She was a black German shepherd mix.
We were devastated when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the right distal radius at 6-1/2 years old. We made the extremely difficult decision to have her right front leg amputated in an effort to save her life. She sailed through the surgery and the recovery, and adjusted to her new three-legged status without issue. Months of chemotherapy were yet another adventure in her most exciting life. She continued to not only survive, but to thrive; enjoying hiking and swimming frequently and thoroughly, as only one living on borrowed time can. She loved the H20 water toys for retrieving in the water. Her favorite treat was pig ears.
After 6 years in remission, we lost her very swiftly on 1/12/07, at 12-1/2 years old, to a new and unrelated cancer. She traveled through her life with grace and dignity. We were honored to be by her side for what was far too brief a time by our standards; albeit a lifetime for Bandit.
